The man from Pietermaritzburg, Greg Minnaar, is the world downhill mountain biking champion, with an impressive 18 world championship wins under his belt. He brought us a special #LoveChange Showcase gift from his 18th and most recent World Cup win.
How did Greg become interested in downhill mountain biking? Well, it seems like he kind of grew into it at a young age when his parents bought a bike shop.
Cycling and mountain biking is not very popular in South Africa, yet. According to Greg we are having a very good run, in terms of cycling, at the moment and the potential’s there. Initiatives like the “Spur School MTB” league might motivate South Africans to try out the sport at a young age.
Greg was so kind as to bring us the Oakley goggles he wore in his latest World Cup victory (number eighteen!). Greg says that the goggles still have sweat and champagne on them.
That’s okay Greg, we don’t plan on wearing them, they will be safe and sound on our #LoveChange Showcase.
