DAVID KAU

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Leading South African comedian David Kau’s name is synonymous with many firsts. At just 32-years-old, this Kroonstad-born comic began his career as the first black stand-up comedian in the 1998 Smirnoff Comedy Festival in Cape Town . David has appeared on TV shows such as, The Phat Joe Show. VICTOR MATFIELD

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Victor captained the Springbok rugby team as well as the Blue Bulls in the Currie Cup and the Bulls franchise in Super Rugby. He is considered one of the best locks in the world and has had a long successful partnership with Springbok and Blue Bulls teammate Bakkies Botha.

Besides almost always winning his own line-out ball, Victor is known for his exceptional skill at disrupting opposition line-outs – this skill was a cornerstone of their 2007 World Cup success, where he was crowned IRB (International Rugby Board) player of the Rugby World Cup.

He has received international acclaim for Late Night News, and his stand-up performances have sold out both locally and abroad. ‎Loyiso has just joined the cast of satirical Australian news show ‘The Weekly’, and might just be the tallest guest we’ve had on the Dan Nicholl show so far!

His television career began with appearances on the Phat Joe Live talk show in 2002, and subsequently on the Pure Monate Show, a sketch comedy series created by comedians David Kau and Kasigo Lediga in 2003. MORNÉ MORKEL

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]A gentle giant off the field, ferocious fast bowler on it, Morné Morkel has been a key member of South Africa’s cricket team for nearly a decade. Capable of producing completely unplayable spells of aggressive quick bowling, Morné regularly terrifies opposition batsmen away from the field. He is quiet, friendly, and vested with a great sense of humour – and likes nothing better than escaping to the bush.

Morné made his ODI debut playing for an Africa XI side. In the following game he opened the bowling with his brother Albie, making ODI history. BUCKETS BLAKES

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]American Basket Ball player Buckets Blakes was born and raised in Phoenix Arizona, his first exposure to basketball was when he was watching the Phoenix Suns at the age of five. He would cut a hole at the top of his dad’s hat, flip it over and shoot a tennis ball through it. Former Suns star Kevin Johnson was a large influence on him. Buckets took the work ethic that he developed first at Arizona Western College, where he earned an associate’s degree, he then joined the University of Wyoming, where he was a team captain and MVP. In his senior season, Buckets was one of only two players in the Mountain West Conference to finish in the top 15.

Now in his ninth season with the Globetrotters, Buckets enjoys working and mentoring kids, he relishes the opportunities he’s had to present the Globetrotters’ widely through the popular “C.H.E.E.R.™ For Character” programme around the world. STUART TAYLOR

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Stuart Taylor is probably best known to South Africans as the presenter of SABC 3’s hit travel show, ‘Going Nowhere Slowly’. But when this Stellenbosch University science graduate is not in front of the camera with a mud-powdered face and wind-styled hair, Taylor is enchanting local and international audiences with his headline, stand-up comedy and magic shows.

His award-winning formula of a meticulous fusion of comedy and magic earned him recognition as South Africa’s Comedy Magic Champion, a title he held for three years.

MATTHEW BOOTH

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Matthew Booth started playing soccer for Fish Hoek AFC in 1982 at the tender age of 5. In 1993, he played in the Bayhill U19 tournament for Fish Hoek where he was spotted by Cape Town Spurs coach Richard Gomes, who saw a lanky youngster flying into tackles and towering above the opposition. He invited him to train with the club’s youth.

Matthew then started playing professionally in 1996, alongside experienced players like Shaun Bartlett and Craig Rosslee. He later joined Mamelodi Sundowns for three seasons. His international debut for South Africa was in 1999, where Bafana Bafana played against Botswana at the Cosafa Castle Cup.

ARD MATTHEWS

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Over the past decade well known singer and songwriter, Ard Matthews, has been honing his craft and moving people the music world over. As the front man of South African band Just Jinjer, his indelible lyrics and melody arrangements has led the way to the incredible success of their debut album title “All Comes Round,” becoming one of the biggest selling rock genre albums of all time in South Africa, achieving double platinum status in its first year, with the follow up album “Something for now” reaching the same status a year later.

Just Jinjer have shared the stage with many iconic local and international artists on many stages across the world. Most notably at the Nelson Mandela 46664 Concert, Johannesburg in 2009 where they performed with the likes of The Goo Goo Dolls, Annie Lennox, Razorlight, Ludacris, Corrinne Bailey Rae, Peter Gabriel, Live, and Angélique Kidjo.

Ard released his debut solo album in the winter of 2012 to critical acclaim and also recently teamed up with South African folk icon Vusi Mahlasela for Ard’s track ‘Umuntu’. BERNARD PARKER

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Bernard Melvin Parker is a South African professional association football midfielder/striker, playing for Kaizer Chiefs.

His football talents was nurtured at the School of Excellence, where Parker made his debut in the professional ranks for Cape Town’s Hellenic FC, which was later bought and renamed Benoni Premier United. After the club was once again renamed and moved to Durban he remained with Thanda Royal Zulu F.C. until early 2009 when he obtained a transfer to European Cup Winners Red Star in Serbia.

Bernard joined Leicester City on trial in December 2010 with a view to a permanent move away from the Dutch club. On 18 January 2011 he moved to Panserraikos F.C. on loan, to secure extra game time and returned to FC Twente after the end of the 2010/11 Greek season. After receiving interest from Swedish clubs Malmö FF and Helsingborgs IF as well as South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs, Parker chose the latter ahead of the other clubs.

In the 2012/13 season, Parker scored 12 league goals in 28 matches and finished as runner up to Katlego Mashego who had 13 and helped Chiefs to a league and cup double. NEIL MCKENZIE

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Cricketer Neil Douglas McKenzie is a right-handed opening batsman who has played for South Africa, making his first appearance in the year 2000. Strong on the leg side, he is also a very good player of spin. He plays for the Highveld Lions in SA domestic cricket and has also played county cricket for Somerset and Durham.

McKenzie is married to SA model, Kerry McGregor and they have two beautiful boys.

In January 2010, McKenzie joined English county side Hampshire as a Kolpak player for the 2010 County Championship. On the 5^th of August 2011 McKenzie hit his career best first-class score of 237 in a County Championship match against Yorkshire.Not only did he make his highest score, but during his innings a number of records fell. DAVID KIBUUKA

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]David Kibuuka is a Ugandan-born South African comedian best known as a field correspondent on the e.tv and eNews satirical show, Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola, since 2010.

Other television shows he has appeared on include the Pure Monate Show, FONT, Laugh Out Loud, The Coconuts, Last Say on Sunday and Going Nowhere Slowly.

A regular on the stand-up comedy circuit, David has performed at such events as the Kingsize Comedy Festival, Blacks Only and the Heavyweight Comedy Jam.

He has also performed regularly at comedy venues like Tanz Café, Comedy Underground, Parkers and the Blues Room. He has also featured in the feature film Bunny Chow.

LUCAS RADEBE

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Lucas Radebe is arguably one of the best and most successful South African footballers of all time. He is a sporting icon in South Africa and has achieved legendary status with English team Leeds United F.C.

He was a member of the first non-racial team to represent South Africa following its return to international football in 1992. Besides captaining SA in the first ever World Cup appearance in France in 1998 and Japan/ South Korea in 2002, Lucas has received a resounding 70 caps for the national team. He was also a member of the Bafana Bafana team when they won the African Nations Cup in 1996.

PAUL ADAMS

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Paul Regan Adams (born 20 January 1977 in Cape Town) is a former South African cricketer, a chinaman bowler who played for the national team sporadically since the 1990s. Meanwhile, his first class cricket career registered 412 wickets.

Adams’s bowling action was highly unorthodox and Mike Gatting likened it to the now infamous phrase – “frog in a blender”. He announced his retirement from professional cricket on 2 October 2008, more than four years after his last Test match and five years after his last ODI.

ANDREW VAN ZYL

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]His nickname is ‘One Gear’ and he was undefeated in seven bouts when he challenged Ruan Potts for the heavyweight title for the first time in November 2011 (he was defeated via first round submission).

He then went on another winning tear and challenged Potts again for the title, claiming EFC gold via unanimous decision in a dominating five round war. He defended the belt successfully once against the dangerous striking of Sors Grobbelaar, but was beaten via submission in the trilogy bout with his rival Potts.

ZANELE MDODANA

Lauded as the most capped national player in Netball, Zanele proudly holds 81 caps under her belt. In addition to her many accomplishments, she recently completed her 1st Half Ironman Triathlon event.

JOHN SMIT

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]John William Smit former rugby union player and currently chief executive officer of the Sharks. He was the 50th captain of the South African national team, the Springboks, and led the team to win the 2007 Rugby World Cup.

He played most of his senior career as a hooker, but also won 13 caps as a prop, where he had also played for South Africa’s under-21 team.
